Microwave chemical reactor
Microwaves are high-frequency electromagnetic waves. They do not generate heat by themselves. Due to their scattered and uncoherent nature in nature, microwaves cannot be used as an energy source. However, magnetrons can convert electrical energy into microwaves. With an oscillation frequency of 2450 MHz per second, they can penetrate various media. When the medium has a suitable dielectric constant and dielectric loss, it will undergo high-frequency oscillation in the alternating electromagnetic field, thereby accumulating energy within the medium. For chemical reactions, both thermal and non-thermal effects can be produced simultaneously.
Non-polar materials such as tetrafluoroethylene; but they will be reflected on the metal surface. The power output of the magnetron in household microwave ovens is basically fixed. The smaller power is achieved by changing the on/off time of the current (proportion of empty time) to realize. The microcomputer can implement timing more strictly by controlling the on/off of the current, and the same working conditions can be selected to obtain repeated chemical reaction conditions.
Application fields
In the field of organic synthesis: It is the primary application scenario of microwave chemical reactors, which can accelerate various organic reactions, such as the synthesis of drug intermediates (such as key intermediates for antibiotics and anti-tumor drugs), the preparation of fine chemical products (such as fragrances and dyes), and polymerization reactions (such as the microwave-assisted synthesis of polyacrylamide). For example, a traditional heating process that requires 12 hours for an ester exchange reaction can be completed in just 30 minutes with microwave assistance, and the yield has increased from 70% to 92%.
